LAP
LAP
28/09/11 - Photos - These photos that we took were mainly to trial and to get an idea of what sort of images we could put on the front of the school magazine. Also by searching around the school we were able to find new, unique places to take photos in, places where no one else had thought of before.
02/10/11 - School Magazine Questionnaire - Creating this questionnaire was quite a challenge as even though I was aiming at sixth formers, I was aiming atthe older year of sixth as I thought that there would more to write on, as they slowly begin to venture out into the world. This questionnaire would also help me find out what types of things sixth formers want to read about instead of the general inothermagazines they may not want to read about.
03/10/11 - School Magazine Flat Plans - To start off with, designing a front cover that I felt would appeal to someone my age and in the upper sixth form seemed a hard task as I struggled to decide on what I felt was a correct placement that would make the magazine look more professional and less like someone at a school who designed. Not only was placement of images, articles and text a challenge but so was getting an appealing colour combination, a combination that not only suited each other but alo suited the background they were placed upon.
17/10/11 - School Magazine Front Cover and Contents - After many attempts of trying to find what I felt would be a successful magazine front cover and contents page, I finally decided on an idea that was completely different from what i had planned out in my head and put onto paper as a flat plan. This was due to the fact that if I used several images over lapping it either made the front cover look crowded or unprofessional, the same can be said with the contents page as most front covers and contents pages follow the same theme when it comes to design.
07/11/11 - Double Page Spread Analysis -This was a task that I enjoyed as I feel that this is something I am strong and confident at doing, finding two double page spreads that I felt was relative to a music magaizne that I would eventaully go on to create was not hard once I had worked out what genre of music I would go on to include in my musice magazine, then it was a matter of finding an existing type of magazine with a similar genre and then finding interesting double page spreads to annalyse.
02/12/11 - Survey - I then had to create a questionnaire/survey that would help determine some of the content of my music magazine and the style that it should be conveyed as. With this task at first it was hard to think of appropriate questions that would further my knowledge into my target audience and help to create a magaine based around their wants.
15/12/11 - Potential Music Magazine Names - At the very beginning of creating my music magazine I had already decided on a name for my magazine, but wanted to explore other names just to ensure that I felt that I had choosen the correct name and by doing this came across other names that I would have otherwise over looked if I had not gone through this process.
06/01/12 - Double Page Spread - This was a task that I enjoyed as I felt that a lot more thought had to go into creating a double page spread as I had never done one before, whereas with the front cover and contents page I had already attempted them and could learn from my mistakes, but with the double page spread a lot more planning and thought went into the entire process from the layout, the images that were used and the text that was included on those two pages.
25/01/12 - Music Magazine Contents Page/Music Magazine Front Cover - The contents page was one of the tasks that I felt were easier as I had done one before, but when trying to fill the page up with relevant stories, this became a much harder task as I stuggled to think of some many and then trying to get the spacing of everything just right became a challenge due to if anything was even slightly out of place, it was notiveable and reduced the quality of the entire page.
Also with the front cover due to the fact that I had done one before I was slightly aware of what ad to be done to reacha certain level of quality, but what made it a lot easier was that I found a magazine that I felt had the same idea that I wanted, this allowed me to use their front cover conventions and ideas and shape my front cover around theirs, whilst adding my own indiviual ideas.
10/02/12 - Evaluation - When evaluating my magazine pages I found that I had to the best of my ability, using the technology at my disposal to create a magazine that believe followed the conventions of magazines with similar genre to my own and came across as professional as possible at my levelof ability.

Music Magazine Double Page Spread Analysis
This is a double page spread from the music magazine 'MixMag', this magazine mainly covers DJ's, events occuring all over the party destinations of the world, anything to do with nightlife.
The title 'Welcome to Lame Academy' of this double page spread takes up a lot of space on one side of the double page spread, the effect this has is that as soon as the reader opens to this page it will be the first thing they look at. Another point is that the type of font the title is written in galmourises this page, as it is written in more a flowing, 'fancy' font. Also the title connotes to the reader that the woman to the left of the title is a 'wannabe' celebrity, another point is that in the text just below the title it explains who the woman is and investigating whether she is "a threat to club culture." The language used in small paragraph just below introduces the reader into what they going to be reading throughout the article, "but are they any good?" using this particular phrase then indicates to a reader that there is going to be gossip on all new DJ's and their performances.

By the woman on the left wearing sunglasses and pulling a suit case this connotes to a reader that she has either just arrived to a tropical club destination or she has just arrived home from a tropical club destination. Also by carrying a small dog this would show to a reader that the woman is trying to be a celebrity or mimic other celebrity images such as Paris Hiltons. Another point connoting to the readers that the woman is a celebrity is that there are paparazzi taking photographs of her.
Amongst the double page spread there is a very small area of text which could indicate that the woman is not very important or that this is the only 'lime light' this woman is going to get and the next few pages are going to be investigating whether she is a worthy celebrity DJ or a fraud. Also by having the text squashed into a corner and the main image taking up a greater proportion of the page it makes the text seem less important, the affect this has on the reader is that they may feel that not alot of effort has been put into the actual article only the visuals on the page.
The main colours of this double page spread are dark colours mainly black, these colors would indicate to a reader possible the night life of a DJ or a night out for reader. The dark colours are then contrasted against brighter colours such as the lemon yellow and pale blue, these colours are put in to represent the sky (pale blue) and the sun (lemon yellow), creating an atmosphere on the pages that the photograph has been taken in the party destination.
This double page spread is from NME music magazine, which associates itself with punk rock style of music.
The title/quotation on the double page spread is like it has been made using cut outs of other magazine words, readers could associate this type of font with someone who is writing but wishes to remain anonomous.
The image on the right of the double page spread is of a woman who comes across as full of herself and is not shy. The woman also links to the type of music genre the magazine associates itself with, by having dark hair and alot of eye make up this is stereotypically linked with punk rock.
This magazine has also used its space more proportional with not too much text and not too much of the image, but the title has squashed the text down into a corner which could make the reader want to avoid such small writing. Also this could make the reader want to read on as it comes across as more effort has been put into the story than just the visuals of the double page.
The main colours on the double page spread are white as the background and then mainly darker colours in front of the background such as black and darks shades of red. The shades of red have also been matched with some of the phrases or words, which connotes to reader that these phrases or words ahve some form of importance.

This image on the left seemed like a good shot due to the fact that it was a different and original spot. The only issue with the first attempt at this shot was that we realised that the shot didnt seemed focued enough and had too much going on in the background.
This images above and below seemed like a good shot due to the fact that it was a different and original spot. The only issue with the first attempt at this shot was that we realised that the shot didnt seemed focued enough and had too much going on in the background.
On our second attempt above and below we zoomed in and from this we gaiend an image with a better focal point enhanced by the brightly cloured background. This would also allow us to use a basic font colour to stand out from the background and making the writing easily visible.
The image on the right is a strinking and imposing image because of how the light bursts through the window and around the model. This would be successful because it would make the reader feel powerful as they're attending the same school as the student model. A bad point about this image is that it is very dark and could be hard to find a suitable font colour to match the background.
The closer shot of the model is good image to use on the next page of the magainze e.g. the contents page. This would be successful because as a reader would be able to see a clear transition between the pages and still see the same theme throughout teh magazine.
The image on the right is a light and bright image which could either be good or bad, based around visibility of the writing on the page. Abad point about this image is that its not focused enough around the student.
Potential Names
TOWICH - The reason for 'The Only Way Is County High' (TOWICH) is because students at the sixth form would be able to see a clear connection with the TV series 'The Only Way Is Essex' (TOWIE).
Spoons - This is a good potential name due to the fact that a good percentage of the BCHS sixth form can relate to the name, as it is a popular card game that we play.
The "Study" Period - Is a potential name due to teh fact that during our study periods its very rare that sixth formers actually study, therefore instead of doing nothing they could read 'The "Studay" Period.

Money Magazine
I feel that the layout of this magazine is effective due to everything is bold and jumps off of the page. Having everything bold draws a readers eye to the page, enticing them in to want to read more. The title 'Money' is coloured in a light blue, which stands out against the white background, this would mean that the magazine title would stand out on a shelf. The large image that has been given quite a large space on the front page I think works well as a clever metaphor for squeezing the most money possible out of everything in a bad market. The title ' 21 good things to do in a bad market', is unique itself because the colours blend from black which traditionally means you are in the clear, to red which means you are in debt.
